TYPES OF REITS

There are three main types of REITs:

• Equity REITs: Equity REITs invest directly in real estate through direct ownership of property; and are therefore responsible for the properties' asset value. Equity REITs’ revenue depends on the properties' revenues.
• Mortgage REITs: A mortgage REIT originates, buys, and/or sells mortgages for real estate property owners. Their revenues primarily come from the mortgage interest.
• Hybrid REITs: Hybrids combine the investing principles of mortgage and equity REITs, diversifying between mortgages and direct property ownership.
